THE CONJURING

The conjuring is a 2013 supernatural horror film (supposedly based on a true story) about two paranormal investigators called Ed and Lorraine Warren , who come across a family claiming to be experiencing disturbing things in their farmhouse.

The opening scene of the conjuring is about a doll called Annabelle who seems to be possessed by a demonic spirit. This mini plot introduces the audience to the heroes of the movie , Ed and Lorraine warren, and gives us an idea of what they do. The first thing we see is a black screen and we hear a girl say the line " it scares us just thinking about it." this immediately sets the tone for the film and

lets us know that there is a dark theme. The first shot is an extra close up of the eye of a doll with a shallow depth of field, which then slowly zooms out . This is effective because a lot of people consider dolls to be creepy and the life like eye and grubby face suggests something paranormal and evil is involved with it. The next image on screen is a wide shot of three people sat down on talking to someone opposite them. The lighting is very dark throughout the opening to add to the idea of something evil occupying their home. A shot from the side shows all three of them whilst they continue their conversation with whoever is sat across from them. This cuts back to another wide shot of them sat on the sofa, which then slowly zooms out at a high angle to reveal the two people they have been talking to ( the paranormal investigators.) When one of the girls starts explaining the situation with the doll it cuts to a wide shot of the doll sat down next to them, which slowly zooms in to give the audience the feeling that the doll is watching and listening to what they are saying. We then see a flashback which explains to us the series of events that led to them calling the paranormal investigators.
